Plowing vs. Throwing

There is a BIG difference between plowing snow and throwing snow

Plowing

Plowing snow is an efficient means of removing snow from areas where snow berms and packed sides are not going to interfere with life.  Long driveways, parking lots with room for snow piles and other areas that are not impacted by compacted snow - especially in the spring when the freeze-thaw cycle creates hazardous surfaces.

Snow Throwing

Using a snow-blower to deposit snow away from the affected area eliminates hard packed sides that, over time in the winter reduce the width of the parking area through several snow plowings that just pack and pack the snow along the sides.  Depositing the removed snow away from the edges allows for the entire width of the driveway to be used throughout the winter.

3rd Step

Hardpack Removal

If the snow/ice build up is improperly managed the spring melting temperatures will create a very slippery surface.  Removing the hardpack before the temperatures rise is crucial.  This can be accomplished through the use of the chemicals (in step 2), mechanical means of scraping the ice with a blade, and traction control.
